Summer Art Camp Teachers

The Chartreuse Muse Gallery & Art School
is proud to present this roster of wonderful instructors,
all of whom work professionally in art.


Ellen Roehne received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) concentrating in ceramics from Chico State University and a Master’s of Fine Art concentrating in sculpture from J.F.K. in Berkeley. She has taught art to children and adults for over 15 years in association with many organizations, including the Stanislaus Arts Council, MJC, Carnegie Art Gallery, Central California Art Association, and Lakewood Elementary School. Ellen is currently teaching a class in art instruction at California State University, Stanislaus.

Sandy Veneman attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan where she attained a BFA, concentrating in ceramics. She received her teaching credential from CSU Stanislaus. She has taught art professionally at Downey High School and has donated her time with teaching art at Ripon Christian School, Our Lady of Fatima School and Big Valley Christian School. She taught children’s art classes for many years at the Central California Art Association.

Penney Meyer graduated from Cuyamaca College, School of Technical and Scientific Illustration in 1985 and has been working as an artist, photographer and illustrator for over 20 years. She is an award winning artist of miniature historical figures and has recently published an article about painting the figure. Penny enjoys leisure painting and tries to paint on something everyday.

Michelle Colston while concentrating on sculpture, studied all areas of art at MJC and CSU, Stanislaus. She has been privately teaching various art techniques to adults since 1998. Michelle has taught elementary and junior high students through the S.T.A.R.S. program offered by the Stanislaus Arts Council. She is a Ring of the Arts member of the Turlock City Arts Commission and truly believes that art comes in all forms and is the best form of expressing oneself.

Fumiko Amano-Caine a new addition to the Muse team. Fumiko is originally from Japan and immigrated to the United States while in college. She is a graduate from UC, Berkeley with a BA in Art. She is currently a student teacher in the Modesto City School district as a high school art teacher. Fumiko has also taught with the S.T.A.R.S. program.

Visiting Artists

Suzanne Staud will be the guest artist for the Storybook Art Camp. She is a local professional graphic designer and fine artist. Find out more at http://www.staudesign.com/.

George te Velde will be the guest artist for the Cartooning Art Camp. He is a local, award-winning editorial cartoonist for the Modesto Bee. George has been surrounded by art all his life and comes from a family of artists.

Nicole Slater will be a guest artist for the Color & Design as well as the Fashion Design Art Camps. She is a local artist known for her reverse painting and background in interior design. Find out more at http://www.nicoleslater.com/
